ABOUT

BIOGRAPHY

Mariah Reodica is a Filipina scriptwriter, video artist, researcher, and independent musician based in Manila, Philippines.

Her works explore queer and postcolonial identities, critique Western conventions of translation and sound, and flirt with the ironies of intimacy. Her most recent research project examined the transformation of identity and the colonizing lens of James Agee’s English translation and narration on Manuel Conde’s “Genghis Khan” (1952). Her first feature-length film Eerie, co-written with award-winning director Mikhail Red, won the National Asian Fantastic Films Award at Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival 2017.She has been published in CNN Life Philippines, Philippine Star, and Rogue Magazine.

Since 2015, Reodica has been the personal assistant of Yason Banal for exhibits and research. She is currently in Baguio, assisting in archiving the vast collection of footage that the Kidlat Tahimik, the Father of Philippine Independent Cinema, has shot over the years.

Aside from putting up regular underground shows under the production Salad Days, Reodica also has a number of musical projects: The Buildings as guitar and vocals, whose debut album was recorded through self-taught music production with no supervision whatsoever from music industry professionals; Good Knife, a lo-fi country project in collaboration with Grandi Oso; and Brain Twins, where everything else goes. She has played shows in San Francisco and Tokyo.
